Rising from the flames!
Meet September’s Client of the month Dr Sharon Griffin. Sharon is a busy working mum of two who like most health care professionals had fallen into the trap of putting everyone before her health. In 2010 Sharon’s world was rocked when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and unfortunately after battling this brutal disease once she later had a relapse in 2014. In the space of 5 years her body was subject to devastating amounts of chemotherapy and over 11 hours of surgery.
Pip briefly trained Sharon before she went travelling but they later reconnected in February 2015 - where the real training started. The relapse had stripped Sharon of her happy-go-lucky demeanour leaving her with low self-confidence and a niggling fear of further relapses.
Sharon started our signature 12 week programme knowing she had to do something to take back control of her health. Pip encouraged Sharon to focus on single steps, each week introducing one thing at a time to cultivate more energy without leaving Sharon feeling overwhelmed with the task at hand. It wasn’t all plain sailing; long nights on call and a busy home life meant Sharon had to make some real sacrifices to prioritise her health.
Thankfully, 19 months later the difference is astonishing! After the initial 12 week programme Sharon had a new goal……..to complete a sprint TRIATHLON. She was inspired by the incredible Team Phoenix Foundation who support breast cancer survivors through a programme to address “Mind , Body and Soul” by exposing them to the benefits of outdoor exercise, community support and achieving a seemingly impossible challenge. With her new goal in sight BBSF continued to support Sharon alongside her Team Phoenix training with a combination of personal training and outdoor boot camp classes.
Sharon says;
Relapsing from breast cancer was a turning point in my life and Pip found me feeling lethargic and low in mood and self-esteem. Doing the 1:1 training with her was invaluable in getting back on track to a better me – not just physically but emotionally as Pip listens very well as you run!!! Doing the triathlon was only possible by having gained the base strength and fitness from Pip’s training and the BBSF community she has developed have supported me the whole way – attending boot camps and park runs alike. I am now happier and healthier than I have been for some time – and although the fear of cancer is never far away my mood is upbeat and positive. Getting outside and exercising is a fantastic way to relax and enjoy life and I recommend BBSF 100%. I am now looking forward to training with Pip for her to join a triathlon next year!
I think it’s clear to see from the pictures above why Sharon is our client of the month! Completing any endurance challenge is an astonishing feat, but recognising where Sharon has come from over the last couple of years to cross that line is an inspirational story that movies are made of. Sharon is living proof that whatever your health situation is now, YOU always have the power to improve it. Sharon, we are honoured to be part of your story and couldn’t be happier to award you with client of the month and year for your achievements. Your rekindled happy-go-lucky demeanor and incredible mental and physical strength is contagious to everyone who meets you. Thank you for being such an inspiration!
