Easy Peasy Slow Cooker Gammon

Easy Peasy Slow Cooker Gammon

Healthy Ham = Packed Lunch Gem!

In the boxing day sales I picked up a slow cooker and ever since I have been obsessed with what I can chuck in it to make life easier. Admittedly, I have had some shockers and can’t apologise enough to my poor friends who we’re polite enough to swallow down the liquidy beef mess I served for them! However last week I stumbled across this gem, which has transformed our boring pack lunches into taste explosions.

The Recipe

Step 1: Put a 1kg gammon joint in the slow cooker.

Step 2: Add 100ml of liquid & spices of your choice (see below for variations, or go wild and experiment.)

Step 3: Turn the joint to coat it in the juices, cook on low for 7 hours.

That’s literally it!

To Serve: I prefer to ditch the fat, then I’ll shred some, slice some and reserve the stock to make the most incredible BBQ sauce.

Variations

#1. 100ml of cider, 1tbsp wholegrain mustard.

#2. 2 tbsp tomato paste, 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1tbsp Cajun seasoning, 2tbsp cider/ white wine vinegar.

#3. 2tbsp of runny honey, 2 tbsp english mustard.

Is Ham Actually Healthy?

Ham is a great source of protein so if a client comes to us with constant cravings and erratic energy, increasing their protein intake is a quick win to balancing their blood sugar levels. Once their blood sugar is under control it’s much easier for them to experience sustained energy and increase energy which then motivates them onto other health upgrades - our ethos is to make small upgrades manageable so big wins multiply!
